Wabunaw Geth Gallery
Our Wabunaw Geth Gallery was named by representatives of the Kaurareg nation, traditional owners of the Kaiwalagal region (Inner Islands) of the Torres Strait.
‘Wabuna was a composer and one day he saw the clouds forming in the sky, outlining the shape of a hand, gethauza. The hand extended down from the sky signifying the creation of all things beautiful.’
The Wabunaw Geth Gallery is our main gallery space, dedicated to contemporary artworks produced by the hands of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal artists. Each artwork reflects the lifestyle, culture and history of our region, including Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal myths, legends, and connection to the sea and land.
